Her name says it all. She arrived at Spirit’s Promise in September 2013 after surviving a terrible situation. She needed a softer footing for her sore legs as a result of the abuse she had endured. We had an opening and Christine from Amaryllis asked if we would take her. She needed a softer footing for her sore legs as a result of the abuse she had endured.
Cruel uneducated trainers from Washington State tortured this gorgeous girl by hog-tying her because she would not “break”. There are many people who do not know compassion when it comes to “schooling” a horse. They torture them and then become the answer to stop the torture. It is so sad that this still exists. They kept Heartbreaker in ropes for days to “teach her a lesson.” As she tried to free herself from her bondage, she burned her back legs and poll. When she was 3 years old, several professionals deemed her “too far gone” and they wanted to send her to auction to be slaughtered. She is 10 now and walks around with a broken heart as a brand on her back hip. Spirit’s Promise is giving her the opportunity to heal and put the past behind her. With a lot of love, and even more patience, we are showing Heartbreaker that love eventually overcomes hate.
Heartbreaker has formed a bond and has been accepted into the herd. She now lets us put a halter over her head. It took Heartbreaker a year, and a lot of patience and love, to achieve this simple act. Spirit’s Promise continues every day to help mend her broken heart.
