“To freely offer to do something;” “Offer to Help;” “To do something without being asked;” “To work for an organization without being paid.”

Our volunteers have done it all! They are the backbone of Spirit’s Promise. With their help we maintain the highest standards we strive for, and volunteer support is responsible and necessary for its success. We could not exist as we do without the timeless giving and tremendous efforts of our equine loving friends.

Work includes horse care (feeding, cleaning stalls and paddocks, filling and cleaning water troughs/buckets, chicken coops, and other tasks that need to be completed daily); facility maintenance (barn maintenance, fence checks, fence installation and repairs, weed control, tree maintenance, and other typical activities); fundraising, grant research and writing; administration/organization, outreach; events; special projects; etc. We need help with trailering, transportation, coordinating volunteers, event organization, processing adoption applications, checking references, doing site visits, and follow-up visits. If you are not sure where you fit in, we can discuss to find out where your skills are best suited.

Volunteers who wish to work directly with horses are required to complete our volunteer orientation program, which includes a brief tour of the facility, introduction to the horses, safe handling practices, and shadowing with one of our senior volunteers.  For volunteer safety, we require all volunteers to wear jeans and boots/sneakers. It is also suggested long sleeves, gloves, a hat, and sun/safety glasses, when appropriate.
